Upland Sandpiper are unique shaped birds. Its chunky body, long thin neck and with a large head and large eyes give it a "pigeon-headed" look. It also has a long tail for a sandpiper. The buff breast mottled with brown distinguish it from the Buff-breasted Sandpiper (clear buffy breast).
The Upland Sandpiper is know for pearching on posts and stumps. Holds its wings elevated when alighting.
