
The Little Blue Heron is dark blue. The head and neck are more maroon tinted. The legs are a dark green or bluish. The bill is blue-gray and darker at the tip. Immatures are white, but have the same bill and leg color. Older immatures are streaked with blue grey (late summer and fall).
The Little Blue Heron might be confused with the Tricolored Heron. The Tricolored is slimmer and a much more active feeder. The Tricolored has white underparts (bermuda shorts) and slimmer bill and neck.
Look for the Little Blue Heron at Anahuac NWR, Attwater NWR, Brazos Bend SP, Brazoria NWR, and San Bernard NWR
