A male Eastern Bluebird is quite a spectacular sight. Deep blue on the back, brick red on the front. Females are a paler version of the male. A permament resident of the open woods of the UTC, I've often found it in flocks of 20 or more in the winter.

A thrush, Eastern Bluebirds eat a mixed diet of fruits and insects. Often one will perch and hawk for flying insects like a flycatcher.

It is separated from the very rare (on the UTC) Western Bluebird by its rusty or red throat (Blue or gray in the Western Bluebird). A Western Bluebird will also have a rusty back. If you do find what you believe is a Western Bluebird document it carefully.

I often find Eastern Bluebird in Brazos Bend State Park and in White Memorial Park
